Gullah Daughters of Purpose Inc., a nonprofit 501c3 organization, was founded in 2016 in Beaufort, SC by Nakeisha Dawson-Thompson as a faith based, teen girls' mentoring and outreach organization. Thompson was born and raised in beautiful Beaufort, where she received her education. Thompson, determined to make a difference, began activities with local teen girls. It was through those activities and her heart for the youth with a focus on Teen Girls that Gullah Daughters of Purpose, Inc. was birthed. Since opening its doors, Gullah Daughters of Purpose, Inc. has forged strong partnerships with families, the local business community, media, school districts, and other youth–serving organizations in the community
We believe all girls can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
It is the mission of Gullah Daughters of Purpose to reach into the communities, the school system, and the court systems to mentor teenage girls who may be in need of guidance and direction during this transitional time in their life.
Our vision is to instill in teenage girls the importance of knowing who they are and understanding that the decisions made now will have a great effect on their futures. Through mentoring and encouragement, we will empower and educate on a level where teenage girls will receive understanding and motivation to succeed in their life journey. We offer classes, summits, outings and one on one mentoring to help build people skills, self-esteem, and confidence to become productive women.
